Today the world was kind to me. (Caveat: it is likely that only legal types will know what the hell I'm talking about.)

My Health Care Commission job requires me to look up a bunch of caselaw relating to statutes from a different state, one which is actually quite far from here. I was frustrated because the law school library doesn't have the appropriate regional digest or Shepherd's. The statutes for that state are the non-annotated variety. This makes the research very much a pain. I spent yesterday slogging through about 75 dicentennial and general digests.

I went to the state law library in Cheyenne today, though, and they not only had a copy of the annotated statutes, they let me check out the volume I needed! This will save me a ton of time.

So here's a special nod to the state law library. You guys rock.

What about Wexis? Aren't most of the statutes there, or are you looking for older stuff?

Another good resource I've found when researching the law of far-off states is to call the state's law library and ask their librarians if they can provide you with what you seek. I've had great luck with this, in fact. Librarians rock.

Actually, Wexis would give me everything I need, and quickly. The problem is that this particular work is my paid contract stuff so I can't use my free-as-a-student resources. It would be like reselling it, according to the reps.

So, for now, I'm stuck with access that any member of the public has, generally paper. That's why it gets more complicated when I'm looking for stuff they don't expect Wyomingites to want. I'm actually about ready to break down and maybe purchase something like Versuslaw. It's not much, but it's inexpensive, and probably adequate for my needs. It may even be tax deductible. We'll see.

Hmm. That's very honorable of you. It certainly would be a bad thing to resell your access to public resources back to your public interesty employer. *cough* I hate Wexis.

Just one more thought: Coe library or the law school library might have public terminals that have access to Wexis resources via library subs to the services. It might be worth checking out, anyway. Of course, Cheyenne's not that far and it's a nice drive and all that, but, well, just an idea.

There actually are some good things available from the terminals, but unfortunately not anything that helps me here. The trip to Cheyenne I have to make anyway because my second job is there. I can just walk a block during my lunch, so it's fairly convenient.
