One of the best birthdays I've ever had was several years ago; I think I turned twenty-three. Or something. I don't generally have a good concept of time.
Anyway, my closest friend, J, took me to dinner at Jeffry's Restaurant, one of the better places in town. It was really quite pleasant. We had a leisurely meal and then walked back to her place, where she said that she had to take a book back to a friend's place, and did I want to go over there? I said sure, and she grabbed some book or other, and we wandered over there.
When we arrived, a bunch of other people were hanging out at this guy's place. I thought it was a little odd, but in our crowd, we sort of hung out in a rather haphazard way. I said 'hi' and chatted for a minute before they made me step outside for a moment. I had no idea why at the time, but when I came back in, they all yelled, "Surprise!"
It was my first surprise party. I drank too much, had cake, played drunk chess, and other things I won't mention on a public forum. It was probably the best party I've ever had, though I must admit that a few of my memories of later in the night are a little fuzzy.
Today, while I will have a great time having dinner with MackenzieMom this evening, it's not the day of leisure I would like. It is our first day of classes, so I'm having all kind of fun with that. Instead, I'm hosting a small get-together this weekend with a few of my closest friends. While I'd love to have EVERYONE I like there, that's just not possible.
There's really no other point to this post. I'm just glad I got my case note draft done, and I kind of like school again. We'll see how long that lasts.
