Back to the Grind

I briefly alluded yesterday to going back to school.  For me, and for the rest of the University of Wyoming law students, this is the last weekend.  Depending on whether we actually do our reading for the first day, even that may be cut short.

It has been a pretty good summer.  I really loved my job (and still have some work to do there).  I also got to take a little road trip for a job interview.  I didn't get the job, but it was nice to travel a bit.  My case note was published (it's at 6 Wyo. L. Rev. 657, if you're interested).  I don't have any copies myself yet, though.  I didn't get to do as much outdoor recreation as I would have liked, but I was able to go rock climbing and go to the mountains a bit.

Now the work.  I have a bunch of jobs at the school.  I'm on the Ed. Board of the law review, I'm a teaching assistant, and I maintain the computer lab.  (That's right, my school is small enough that we only have one computer lab.)  The last job also means I'm the student technology representative of the law school, and to the main campus tech committee, in addition to being my class's representative for the student fee technology committee.  That's a lot of meetings!  On top of all this, I still have some work to do left over from my summer job.  I'll be arguing before the Wyoming Supreme Court in a few weeks, and I have one last brief to write.

Let's just say I'll be taking advantage of this last weekend.  I have enough to do that I'll probably be dividing it down the middle betweed work and play, which is a lot more play than I'll soon enjoy.

As of 5pm CST today, I finished my MCAT. As I staggered out of Durham to my car, my sugar-caffeine high drained from my body. I lit up a victory smoke and went home.

My brain started working a few minutes ago.

At least enough to tell you guys how things went. Here's my day. It's fun!

6:30 am-ish: Alarm goes off. I wake up. Shower and dress myself. I laid my clothes out last night because the last time i was awake at 6:30, I was getting ready to go to bed.

7:00 am: I eat some Raisin Bran (mmmm, Bran) and flip through my digital flash cards one last time.

7:30 am: I chug a half-liter of Diet Dew and head out.

8:00 am: The test begins. I'm test taker #5. I stole the number. So, naughty. After 30 minutes of check-in.he first test is the Physical Sciences section. 77 questions. 100 minutes. I'm not 100% conscious and the Dew hasn't hit yet. but I plod through. I finish filling in my last circle with 2 minutes to spare. And I REALLY have to pee.

some time after 10 am: I pee out my Physics knowledge (and some Dew, I suppose) and now I am fully awake and test ready. The Verbal Recognition test is next. 60 questions in 65 minutes. It's a glorified reading comprehension class. I zip through it with 15 minutes to spare. Plenty of time for checking my circles and making sure I didn't make any errors of guessment. I also realized in my sleepy stupor that I fucked up my last name bubbles on the Physical Science test sheet. The nice man shakes his head at me an lets me fix it. I blush and run off to eat lunch.

Noonish: We get an hour lunch. I sit in my car and try to call Mone. She's in Pella with the dog and William (listed in order of importance to her), so no answer. She packed me two PB&Js, a can 'o' Dew, Cool Ranch Doritos, a cheese stick, Jolly Ranchers and a Skor Bar. I eat one sandwich, the cheese, some chips and pounded the Dew. I rapped with Scott and flipped through my OChem cards. Before I went back in, I pocketed 5 Jolly Ranchers and shoved the Skor Bar in my mouth.

1 pm: Writing Section. Offensive art should be banned. The rich should give money to the poor. Two essays, 30 minutes each. I kicked the shit out of this session. Granted, my penmanship is terrible. I tried to make my handwriting better. But there is a reason I type everything. By now, my Skor Bar sugar high is in full bloom. But I need to maintain it.

2pm: Ten minute pee break. I shove the five Jolly Ranchers into my mouth like a chipmunk and I suck on them all through Biological Sciences. Last section. 77 questions. 100 minutes. I am so pumped on on sugar and caffeine that I finish the test with 25 minutes to spare. It also didn't hurt me that they replaced 75% of the OChem questions with Molecular Biology questions (if I had only studied Molecular Biology every day for the past 10 years, oh wait, I have). I was like "WTF am I going to do for the next 25 minutes. But I figured I'd check my answers. So I did, fixed a few "errors" (they were right the first time through) and smiled smiled smiled.

5pm: They make us fill out a survey and set us loose. I'm done and I don't think I did too horrible.

Sounds like you rocked the house, as is expected. Congratulations. Perhaps you've traded with Goldie to alternate with school with me: I'll graduate, and you'll be in school, then we just take turns.

Let me know which med school you choose.

Happy birthday -- may you have *many* more -- and good luck with the 3L year.

I'm certain your parents are very proud.
