I Got Nothin’

Not much to blog about—life is pretty ho-hum these days.  I think that’s a good thing.  Excitement, at least lately, tends to mean trouble.

The guitar practice proceeds apace.  A few hours (sometimes only a couple) a day will create some improvement pretty fast.  I wonder how good I’d have been if I’d practiced as much then?  Probably pretty good.

Anyway, my fingertips are officially callused.  Eventually, I’ll also develop some calluses down the side of my index finger, but I’ll have to practice barre chords a lot more before that happens.  At the moment, I’m only just getting the F-chord to sound out reliably without spending a bunch of time trying to get my fingers arranged just right, so it may be a month or two before I really start practicing the barres.  Depends a bit on where it is in my method book.

Maybe if I had an electric guitar, I’d be further along—I understand that it’s generally easier to play.  But I like the idea of starting on acoustic and, eventually, maybe I’ll pick up an electric.  It would be nice to be able to switch back and forth fairly easily.  Besides, I had an acoustic lying around, not an electric, so I didn’t have to spend any money on the guitar.  I have bought a few things: a book, strings, a guitar stand, and a couple other miscellaneous items, but they’re all pretty minor purchases.  The method book was probably the most expensive at $20, and the stand next down at $14, but both were well worth it.
