As technophilic as I am, sometimes the constant press of technology can be a bit of a burden. So every once and a while, I’ll take some time to recharge without the outside world. Usually, I won’t answer my phone, and I may check my email only once over the course of the weekend, sometimes not even that much. I definitely take a step back from all my RSS feeds. It’s just a time to kick back, do things around the house, maybe read a bit or catch up on some of my catalog of Netflix films.
That’s what I did this weekend, and it was great. I did have to do some shopping, but I also started some sauerkraut:
I like to put hot peppers in my ‘kraut, so you can see habanero on the right, and the rest is jalapeno. (I had some habanero handy, and picked up a bunch of jalapeno on Saturday. I still have extra cabbage.) I have another jar of habanero that has been going a few weeks and should be ready to eat or freeze (ok, let’s face it—eat) by the end of March. These things ferment in the basement, so the cool environment makes the process take at least six weeks or so.
In other news, the weather is starting to perk up a bit. I’m starting to think that I should perhaps plant some radishes out in the garden, and maybe some other cold-weather goodies (kale?). Much of my garden is already occupied with the two dozen or so garlic cloves that I planted in the fall. They take a while, so that space is spoken for until at least the end of June, if I have my schedule correct.
Aside from all my domesticity, I also managed to watch a few movies, and spent most of yesterday making my fingers hurt (in a good way) using the guitar. I wasn’t able to practice much in the last week or so, so it was nice to sit down and catch up.
Overall, a pretty good weekend. Now I’m going to crack down at work and be unbelievably productive.
